Your Contact Lens Travel Case
February 12th, 2010    Subscribe To Our FeedPeople who wear contact lenses are usually pretty rigid when it comes to taking care of their lenses. Making sure they are cleaned on a daily basis, keeping them free of bacteria and protein buildup is part of their daily routine. Most will often store them overnight in case with the right solution and have a separate contact lense travel case for the times they are not spending the night at home. What many contact wearers may not realize is that the lense cases, both ones they keep at home and their contact lense travel case may be riddles with bacteria that has been washed off their contacts.
While a contact lenses travel case can be designed to fit your personal lifestyle, such as being embellished with images that match your frequently traveled destinations, the need to keep them clean is paramount to maintaining good eye health. Typically, a person will remove one contact lens, clean it and rinse it to remove any bacteria and protein, place it in their contact lense travel case and then repeat the process with the other lens.
In the morning, they will rinse their lenses and place them back into their eyes, dump the liquid out of the contact lense travel case and move on with their lives. That night, they repeat the process, with little attention being paid to what microscopic organisms may be alive and well in their case.
Tap Water May Not be Best Cleaning Medium
Too many people use water from their tap to rinse their contacts and while traveling place their contact lense travel case under running water to rinse it out. No matter how clear the water may appear, there is always the possibility of small bacteria living in the water and when it gets in the case, it can easily be transferred to the contacts, which will then go into the eyes the next morning.
Keeping the contact lenses travel case clean and dry is part of the process of insuring the lenses remain clean. Since many of the designer contact lense travel cases can cost up to around $50, it is usually advised that less expensive ones be used when traveling and they be discarded up returning home.
Many eye doctors recommend using an inexpensive contact lense travel case and discarding them after each trip. Many also recommend that all contact lens cases be replaced at least every three months, and some go so far as to recommend replacement every month to avoid bacteria build up in the case from getting back on the lenses.

The popularity of disposable contact lenses
February 12th, 2010    Subscribe To Our FeedMany people who need glasses to see clearly look for alternatives because glasses can be uncomfortable and inconvenient at times. Some people choose to have some type of surgery to correct their vision problems while other people choose disposable contact lenses. Several excellent companies manufacture a variety of disposable contact lenses as well as other types of contact lenses. These disposable contact lenses and all other contact lenses improve constantly because of the research and development at these companies. Currently, there are many different types of disposable contact lenses to choose from for those looking for the most comfortable and effective options.
Some people choose glasses because they like the look, or they are not good candidates for disposable contact lenses or other types of contact lenses. These people do not have the funds for corrective surgery or they do not want to undergo this type of procedure for some reason. Other people choose the corrective surgery because they do not want to be bothered with glasses or contact lenses. Many people have chosen the disposable contact lenses because these are very effective and convenient.
The Eye Doctor Will Guide The Choices For Disposable Contact Lenses
The people who decide on contact lenses should start with their eye doctor. They will need a prescription in order to buy any contact lenses. The eye doctor will provide a thorough exam before making out a prescription. This exam will include testing to determine the exact prescription. These eye doctors are usually very knowledgeable about the contact lenses available to their patients. They usually study the products on the market, and they have many patients who are wearing many different types of contact lenses.
If the doctor recommends disposable contact lenses, there will be many different options to consider. Each of the options has some advantages and disadvantages. Some of the disposable contact lenses are worn for only one day and then discarded. These do not have to be cleaned or stored. Other disposable contact lenses are worn for a week or a month. These contact lenses usually need to be cleaned when they are removed from the eyes although other products can be left in the eyes for the entire week or month. Some of these disposable contact lenses require little or no maintenance. Eye doctors often get some free samples of contact lenses so their patients can try the available options. This will give each person some time to evaluate which contact lenses are best for their needs.

Bifocal contact lenses
February 12th, 2010    Subscribe To Our FeedBifocal Contact Lenses Work Near And Far
Bifocal contact lenses are fantastic for people who need their eyesight improved for both distance viewing and close up tasks. Most people do not need any type of correction to their eyesight until they are about forty years old. About that age, people end up wearing reading glasses as their eyes start to change because of age. Reading glasses are sometimes bothersome because these wonderful tools are not always close at hand. Sometimes people forget their glasses or do not have them near when they need them. In their later years, people often need eyeglasses to help them read and to see clearly in the distance.
At this time, people tend to need bifocal glasses so they can see in all circumstances. Several companies have now developed bifocal contact lenses so people do not need to wear glasses at all. People can often put the bifocal lenses over their eyes in the morning, and they can see clearly in all circumstances throughout the day. Bifocal contact lenses are designed so part of the bifocal lens helps them to see well in the distance and part of the lens helps them to view close at hand.
Bifocal Contact Lenses Are Comfortable And Effective
Many people already wear bifocal contact lenses, and most of these people are very happy with the comfort of these lenses. These bifocal contact lenses come in two different types. They are currently made as soft contact lenses and rigid gas permeable contact lenses. Each person should work with their eye doctor to decide which kind of bifocal contact lens is best for their needs. Most eye doctors are very knowledgeable about all of the lenses on the market, and they will be able to guide each person to the best type for their needs.
The eye doctor will usually take several factors into his decisions on the most appropriate bifocal contact lens for each person. The size of the pupil of the eye is one of these factors. The other factor that is important in selecting bifocal contact lenses is the prescription of the lenses. The doctor will have to consider each prescription when suggesting bifocal contact lenses. Sometimes the eye doctor will have each person try different lenses to see which ones are the best for their circumstances. Most eye doctors will have some free samples to give their patients for these trials. Many people who use bifocal contact lenses are very satisfied and recommend them to their friends.

Tips On Interacting With The Blind
February 7th, 2010    Subscribe To Our FeedBlindness affects one in every 30 Americans, meaning that chances are you're going to encounter someone who has impaired vision. Not everyone knows the proper way to behave around people with impaired vision. The most important thing to remember about the blind is that they're just like anyone else, only they can't see. That , first and foremost, should determine how you treat them. Here are some specific tips: Blind people are not mentally deficient, uneducated or deaf. That means they can understand adult explanations at a normal volume. Similarly, blind people are capable of asking for what they need and of answering questions put to them. Taking pains to avoid sight-oriented language is likely to be more awkward for a blind person than simply using words and phrases such as “see,” “look” or “watch out for.” Blind people are familiar with these terms.
Never pet or feed a guide dog, even a cute one. Guide dogs are highly trained working animals and don’t respond well to distraction. Remember to always greet the blind when entering their immediate surroundings and to let them know when you are leaving. Don't leave a door ajar, which could be dangerous; the door should either be fully open or fully closed. When helping the blind cross a street, make it clear you are talking to them so they know they are about to be assisted. Even when not accepted, an offer of assistance is usually appreciated. If you relax, you’ll make it easier to sense when you’ve reached the curb. Walk in a straight line and avoid any unnecessary or sudden movements. If you come across steps, describe them and say how many there are and whether they go up or down. These tips are from the Blinded Veterans Association.

Why Do People Bully Glasses Wearers?
February 7th, 2010    Subscribe To Our FeedWhilst browsing I came across some really terrible figures when it came to children wearing glasses. Many of them do not understand why they are being picked on and so many of them also want to not use their glasses anymore simply because they are being bullied, but why is this?
It would be wrong of me to say that every single glasses wearer is smart as this is not true but the smart ones are the ones bullies often target. This is on the whole anyway. The reason that kids do this is because they know the geekier kids are a lot cleverer than them and they also know they are more superior than them. Many fo the children wearing glasses have had their confidence slowly pushed away so they find it hard to fight back.
Important figures
- 20% if children have seen classmates actually skip one or more day of school because of bullying they received when it came to glasses.
- 1/4 of all children are upset about their glasses because they have to wear them to school
- 50% of children do not wear their glasses when they should be
- 50% of children that wear glasses are called names.
Some of these figures are crazy, they make you realise how big the problem is. One of the first steps to take when it comes to bullying is simply ask them to ask the bullies to stop doing it. The next step is to ask your child to make a name for themselves. Most bullies are not smart at all, use this. If none of this is actually working then you need to go into the school or speak to the parents of the bully, this could really help.
So when you think glasses don’t always think cool police glasses and aviator glasses, think about the normal people that wear cheap glasses.
